Week 4 is here and this week was a bust. We got out of dodge for the holiday weekend and all of our focus was on another remodel project that we have going on at our summer cottage. But here we are, and I think that we have finally decided on the ceiling wood, and plan. Yay!!! Because it is going to be a feature, I am keeping it a secret. However, I will give you sneak peeks as we go. Just in case you missed what is happening thus far, here are my previous blogs that detail my design plan.
Now onto the scoop for this week! The wood is ordered and it should be in my possession before Friday. I think that it is going to be a showstopper for sure and I’m giddy with excitement. As you saw last week with my inspiration photos, this decision is critical to the overall design. I received so many ideas and recommendations, so thank you for taking the time to not only read my blog, but shoot me photos, and direct messages telling me about your successes.
I think one of my favorite parts about this incredible challenge is that it amps up the creativity and inspires me to try new things in design. Creating a feature in a room gives it so much interest and it’s incredibly fun. If you followed me last Fall for my daughter’s bedroom makeover, the feature wall was the biggest challenge, but also reaped the greatest reward. Here is the link to that project. I’d sure love for you to see it if you missed it. Here is a photo of the feature wall. Best decision I’ve ever made.
Whether it’s wallpaper, tile, wood, shiplap, or countless other products, it takes your project from ordinary to extraordinary. It is also the difference between your final result looking basic, or professional. So my advice when you are in the planning stage is find a way to make at least one element of your project shine. You’ll be glad that you did.
Finally, another fun thing happening in the screened porch remodel is that all of my furniture and accessories are here. Although there are some things that I am repurposing, many new items have arrived and they are even more gorgeous than I imagined. The rug is fabulous. The garden stools are stunning, and the oversized light makes my heart skip a beat. It’s just so perfect. Using oversized lighting is something that is done a lot in design, and it’s always a good choice. Go big or go home, people. Be bold, not boring. Oversized lighting packs a big punch and if you change your mind later, it’s easy to change out. Win, win!
Here is the corner of my dining room. Now if I could just get things finished so I can start filling the space with all the goodies I’d be so happy.
Hopefully we will be sharing the ceiling work this week so stay tuned to my Instagram and Facebook pages and stories! It is full transformation time, so let’s do this! Thank you for following along and I will see you next week with another update!! Cheers!
